Chief Operating Officer
Catherine H. Burnett is Chief Operating Officer of Phillips Philanthropies, which includes the Phillips Foundation, a private family foundation and catalytic capital platform with offices in Greensboro, North Carolina, and Dallas, Texas. The Foundation seeks to leverage its full endowment for positive social and environmental change through impact investing, strategic grants, and original programs. A sustainability strategist with experience both in the U.S. and abroad, Burnett oversees the Foundation’s organizational operations, grant making activities, impact investing strategy, and program development. She also manages operations for the Phillips family’s greater philanthropic practice and serves as Chief Impact Officer for Phillips Management Group, where her role includes quantifying social/environmental strategy and impact analysis for the operating business with real estate holdings across the Southeastern United States.
Prior to joining Phillips Foundation in 2015, Burnett held a variety of positions in philanthropy, nonprofit strategy, corporate social responsibility, and community and business development for organizations including: William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust, SC Johnson Company, Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership, SONY Online Entertainment, and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Burnett holds a Master of Business Administration with honors from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and a Bachelor of Arts with distinction from Princeton University. She serves on the North Carolina Advisory boards of Environmental Defense Fund, Teach For America Piedmont Triad, and Partners Ending Homelessness.
